After reading, exploring, researching and hands on comparison I do not regret the purchase of this Toshiba LCD TV. I feel it is an outstanding value for a 52 inch lcd class tv. Toshiba's new 5 gig processor combined with the 120Hz smooth's action transitions as well as delivering outstanding darks and vibrant colors. My family room is well lit with sunlight during the day and there is no screen glare. The picture is very clear and sharp as well. The set is extremely impressive with an HD signal. It does almost as well with just a regular digital signal from cable/antena. I also hooked up a older JVC DVD player using just the old RCA cables and was extremely surprised at how good the picture looked. very close to looking as good as HD. I am getting Toshiba's upscaling DVD player, its on order, and will be using it soon. The remote is a breeze to use. Its simple to find which format to use for displaying the signal. Toshiba has done their homework. They should get back some of their market share that they lost to Samsung. I would stack this LCD against any other 50+ inch LCD HDTV out there. I also am using a Philips home theater sound system and the audio is outstanding. The onboard speaker does an good job for every day viewing but won't compair to a home theater system. I would buy this product again, hands down. Look closely at this TV if you are looking at 120Hz LCD HDTV's. I also consitered the 55 inch 670U with the simulated 240Hz. Even if it was a true 240Hz I would have still opted for the 645U 120hz. I believe the 240hz to be over kill combined with the cost difference between the two. Over all I am extremely happy and well satisfied with this product.Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black

I have used Toshiba's XD-E500 Upconverting 1080p Extended Detail DVD that I ordered from Amazon several times now. I am very pleased with this Toshiba product as well. The picture looks outstanding. HD quality. i am so pleased that I didn't get a Blue Ray player but opted for an upconverting unit instead. At $64.00 the Toshiba is at the top of its game. I did purchsase the 2 year replacement policy as some of the reviewers stated that they have had failures with theirs. All in all I am enjoying watching tv and movies at home like I have never before. The Ragza link also enables the use of one remote use for both the LCD tv and the DVD player. Nice. Look at these products if you are researching before buying. Just an awesome home entertainment center paired together. I never thought I would enjoy staying home to watch movies more than going to a theater. My family loves movie night with us or their friends. Again, very pleased with both of these purchases and they both perform beyond my expectations.

Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black 4.0 Great value in the world of LCD TVs 5 out of 5 find the review helpful 7/23/2009 - by simpleeye at Cnet
Pros:
Excellent HD picture. Sharp detail and realistic color. Solid black levels. Extensive tweaking available.
Cons:
Traditional problems with LCD: Fast-motion blur problem has been addressed but far from solved. Off-axis viewing tends to cause colors to wash out.
I bought this set after a side-by-side comparison with numerous other sets, both LCD and plasma. This set stood out primarily for its "photo-like" HD picture. Because of the problems inherent in today's LCD sets, I would probably have gone with a plasma if our home circumstances allowed for dark-room viewing at all times. But with bright ambient light, the plasmas just couldn't be adjusted for enough brightness without degrading the overall picture quality.
Having moved from an LCOS rear-projection set, it didn't take long to notice increased motion blur in familiar fast-action material. Curiously, I discovered that the same movie on Blu-Ray was worse in this respect than on DVD. A little thought led to the suspicion that my cheapo HDMI cable wasn't keeping up with the 1080p signal. After obtaining a quality cable, the motion blur was reduced on my Blu-Ray movies to the same level as the DVDs. That said, someone still needs to find a better solution to this problem. I can enjoy the amazing picture on most material but occasionally am reminded that I'm watching technology that has not been perfected. As for off-axis viewing, I don't really consider this much of an issue. To sit sufficiently outside the viewing "sweet spot" to experience a problem with wash out, I'm already at such an angle I wouldn't enjoy the program anyway.
Overall, I am very happy with my choice. I believe this set represents very close to the state-of-the-art in LCD viewing at a price below sets with competing performance levels.

After a lot more viewing, I've been able to lay some of the blame for the motion blur I was complaining about earlier on the movies themselves. I've watched several newer Blu-Ray movies with a lot of action sequences as well as some others in my DVD collection and the blur problem is barely noticeable even when I'm looking for it. Another factor to consider is that each individual's threshold for sensing motion blur can be different.
The more I use this set, the more I like it.
If you're looking for a 52" flat-panel, definitely check this one out.

Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black 4.0 An excellent TV, but . . . . 3 out of 3 find the review helpful 8/3/2009 - by Miss "Barbara" at Amazon

I agree with all the positive reviews here, but if you need to use closed captioning, you might want to read Freiwil's review of the 52-inch Regza at http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-REGZA-46XV645U-46-Inch-1080p/dp/B001TOD3IM/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t He is correct in saying that you have to use the cable box's closed captioning option because CC is not transmitted through the HDMI cable. I called Toshiba to confirm this, and the rep said this is true. I really hate that because the TV has many CC options for font, size, and so on that are not available via cable TV. Also, others have mentioned a set-up issue (the set-up screen occurring every time you turn on the TV) on sets built before a certain date. The Toshiba rep admitted this is a problem, but she mailed a card to insert in one of the slots on the side to update the firmware and avoid this problem in the future. For the price, this is an excellent buy. The technician who set up our TV said that he thought the Sanyo top-of-the-line had gotten around the problem with CC. I hope Toshiba can do that! However, the higher end Sanyo we priced was $1000 more than the Toshiba.

Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black 4.0 As good as advertised 2 out of 2 find the review helpful 12/16/2009 - by JW Blue at Amazon

Just got the TV yesterday and think it's great overall. The picture is terrific. Tested it out with the Dark Knight blu ray and it was phenomenal. I know there's a lot of hype about moving to 240hz, but I think 120hz is just fine for my viewing needs. A lot of the negative feedback on the durability and problems of Samsung and Sony LCDs in other reviews led me to Toshiba.

The sound is the weak spot, but I had heard that criticism going into this. It's weak, so to really enjoy blu rays, you'll need to spend some money on audio equipment.

Probably the best value for the price at the 52 inch size category. Fortunate that I was able to get this as a replacement to a 4 year old TV under extended warranty that crapped out.

I'd had misgivings about purchasing such a product online, but some friends had done so with no problems, so I decided to try it. The TV arrived in great shape! The delivery service unpacked it and put it into the entertainment center. I had to hook the cable box, DVD player, games up, but that was no problem. The picture is fantastic! I sometimes felt like I was standing on the side lines watching the opening weekend of college football.

I have to wonder why people let big box stores like Best Buy charge them to deliver and set up their TVs. It really is pretty simple. The Amazon price was $200 to $300 less than any of the local stores that I used to evaluate the various sets and prices, and there were no shipping charges.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with both the choice of the Toshiba TV and the decision to purchase it from Amazon.Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black

Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black 4.0 Like it but.... 3 out of 7 find the review helpful 11/2/2009 - by Uday Anumalchetty at Amazon

This is my first LCD tv and hopefully the last one for a while. I still havent hooked it up to my hd dvr yet. It'll happen in a couple of days. I really like all the features and how good the HDTV reception is.

My only disappointment is the standard definition channels. Its kind of scary when you buy a new tv and many of the channels look worse than they did in your 15 year old tv. I hope that it gets better when i connect it to a cable box.

Plus, I am not sure if all LCD's look this bad with standard channels?

Can anyone comment?

We moved into a new house and were on a mission to buy 3 televisions. After looking at all the televisions out there in our price range, and looking at all the displays next to each other, this one instantly popped out at us. I know we aren't supposed to judge a tv when it's next to a bunch of others, but I couldn't help looking at all the other ones and how my eyes just kept coming back to this model. The blacks seemed darker, deeper and the colors were more vivid and crisper. I ended up buying three 52" for the house. I'll start of by saying that the picture is beautiful. It has full side inputs and a lot of rear inputs. One thing to mention is if you are hanging it, the rear inputs are almost impossible to reach and since they point straight back and not downward, there may be a problem with some cabling. Toshiba, like any other manufacturer, put their light up logo right in front and under the screen so it's in the way when you are watching tv, however, they were smart enough to allow you to turn it off. The control on the tv isn't great - it feels cheap and doesn't light up, but does glow in the dark. Changing between channels is pretty quick, not like some tv's where you have to wait a couple seconds. Watching Planet Earth on BluRay is excellent, except when there is quick panning, such as when they pan to follow a hawk, you can notice some jitter because the refresh rate isn't as fast. I haven't seen a football game on it yet so I don't know how that looks. The sound is not very good, but then again I am not sure of many tv's that have great sound. I have to really turn up the volume in order to hear it clear. It does have different picture modes such as sports, theater, store, etc. I find store to be the brightest, most vivid and yet retain some really deep blacks, however, this mode is not energy compliant. The tv itself is very sexy. It features a matte screen and it's anti-glare is very good, expecially in our master bedroom where windows are next to and in front of where the tv hangs. The casing is a glossy black which does tend to gets fingerprints when touching it. Overall, I think this tv is well worth the price and you will be very happy with the picture quality. Take it from someone who owns 3 of them!

Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black 3.0 Good set but sound quality is very poor 2 out of 4 find the review helpful 12/21/2009 - by Michelle Peel at Amazon

I purchased a 32" Toshiba Regza 2 years ago and loved it. We wanted a bigger set for the living room and decided to go with the 52" Regza set again. Someone else has complained about the sound system and so do I. On the 32" set the sound speakers were built in on the front frame of the TV -- the sound pointed out and into the room. On this set the speakers are built under the TV frame -- the sound points down. The sound is also louder behind the TV than in front of the TV. I don't have this hanging on a wall so I don't know if that would make a difference. I have the TV sitting on an entertainment stand and the back is open out to a hallway. When I walk down the hallway the sound is twice as loud as it is in front of the TV set. I'm very, very disappointed that Toshiba set the speakers into the TV in such a way to make the sound quality so bad. I love the 32" and if I had read more I probably would've gone with a Samsung or Sanyo set instead. But, I was happy with the 32" and thought the 52" would be the same.

Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black 4.5 Best 52inch LCD under $2,000 1 out of 1 find the review helpful 8/16/2009 - by thatdood at Cnet
Pros:
Great PQ, black levels are excellent, great price ($1299) at Fry's
Cons:
more hdmi connections would be nice
I compared this TV to other 50 - 54 inch LCD's under 2,000 and this was the top LCD for performance and price. I would even argue that it performed really well against the Sony XBR which is almost 1200 more than the Toshiba.

Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black 5.0 Excellent Value 1 out of 1 find the review helpful 12/2/2009 - by achap78 at Cnet
Pros:
Outstanding price for a television with such high picture performance. Excellent picture quality that routinely draws compliments from my friends and family. Fairly good sound quality from the speakers as well. Easy setup, no nonsense operation!
Cons:
I've experienced moments were the sound becomes mechanical and I have to shut off my Directv and television, but I cannot accurately diagnose if this is coming from the television or satellite box.
This is a great value for the price. I have this television hooked up to my 7.1 receiver and I routinely get high praise and compliments on the television for picture quality. It definitely provides that whole "wow" factor among my friends and family. My brother has a 72" Mitsubishi DLP and he was floored by the picture quality, same goes for a technophile friend who wouldn't be caught spending anything less than $2,000.00 for this level of television (yeah, he's a bit of a techno snob). Even the speakers function well for television speakers. I recently experienced a manufacturer defect with my Yamaha 565 receiver which left me stranded without surround sound during Thanksgiving football (thanks Yamaha). Thankfully, the Toshiba speakers functioned well in the absence of my surround system. I'm very pleased with the purchase of this television. It's easy to set up, easy to use, functions well with all my components, and definitely provideds an excellent picture quality. I would recommend Toshiba products to anyone.
